Participant Presentations and Discussion
This session provides an opportunity for groups to present their capstone outputs, share methodologies, discuss limitations, and evaluate institutional integration.
1. Presentation Format and Guidelines
Each group will deliver a technical presentation summarizing their Capstone results.
-
Time Allocation:
-
Presentation Duration: 10 minutes.
-
Questions and Discussion: 5 minutes.
-
-
Recommended Slide Structure:
-
Slide 1: Project Title, Group Number, and Member Names.
-
Slide 2: Flowchart of your geoprocessing workflow (from DEM/Sentinel-2 inputs to final map outputs).
-
Slide 3: The Delineated Catchment Boundary, including calculated area (sq. km), stream density, and minimum/maximum elevations.
-
Slide 4: Surface Water Delineation results, detailing calculated reservoir/river surface areas.
-
Slide 5: Map Layout Review (showcasing your exported \(A3\) map layout).
-
Slide 6: Technical Challenges encountered (e.g. data quality issues, tool parameters) and how you resolved them.
-
Slide 7: Policy recommendations for water conservation inside the West Rapti Basin.
-
2. Evaluation Rubric
Presentations will be graded based on a total of 100 points:
| Assessment Criteria | Maximum Points | Focus Areas |
|---|---|---|
| Technical Correctness | 40 Points | Correct projection handling, accurate geoprocessing output, proper attribute formatting. |
| Cartographic Quality | 30 Points | Visual hierarchy, legible labels, correct use of scale/north arrow, coordinate grid accuracy. |
| Synthesis & Analysis | 20 Points | Logical interpretation of hydrologic parameters, policy recommendations based on spatial evidence. |
| Delivery & Q&A Response | 10 Points | Clarity of communication, time management, and technical confidence during the Q&A session. |
3. Institutional Discussion: GIS at WECS
The session concludes with an open discussion on implementing these workflows into daily operations at WECS:
-
Standardization:
The importance of adopting standard folder layouts and coordinate reference systems (CRS) across all WECS projects.
-
Metadata Registries:
Maintaining metadata logs for all national datasets to ensure data traceability.
-
Automation Templates:
Developing standardized QGIS style files (
.qml) and print layouts (.qpt) to automate monthly report generation.
